The authors in this article explain that almost 1 million teens get pregnant every year, and according to this artice the causes for them getting pregnant are education faliure, proverty, unemployment, and low self esteem. Because teens are pregnant they drop out of school but on the other hand when teens are still enrolled in school and give birth, they graduate the same time as their classmates do. Seven out of 10 teenage mothers complete high school or earn a GED but are less likely to go to college. One in 8 births to US are teenage. US teen pregnancy is one of the highest in western world wide - 2x as England, France and Canada, 3x as Sweden, and 7x as high as the Dutch rate. A lot of people say that teenagers need to threefold meaning: 1. delaying sexual intercourse, 2. prevent pregnancy while sexually active, and 3. directed at ensuring the well-being of teens who become parents - avoid furthur pregnancies. People think that sex education puts teens in a higher risk of becoming sexually active but effective sexual education can decrease sexual activity. More than 40% of women in the US get pregnant before the age of 20. Studies say that girls who hae sex before 15 were victims of incest or other sexual abuse.

There wasn't an author listed for this article but it has a lot of good stats and facts. The worst part of being pregnant will probaby be the cost, which in the US would be atleast $7 billion annually. About 34% of women get pregnant before they reach the age of 20 and thats about 820,000 a year. Eight out of 10 were unintended and 79% were just unmarried. Back in the day before the 1980s teens would most likely have been married before they had gotten pregnant and today most of them are just unmarried. Four out of 10 girls who had a first intercourse at the age of 13 or 14 were reported to be non-voluntary or unwanted. About one-third of pregnant teens receive their high school diploma and 1.5% of them have a college degree by the age of 30. Studies show that 13% of sons end up in prison and 22% of daughters also become teenage mothers. The girls who don't get pregnant as teens are the ones who say its agains their religious or moral values, to avoid pregnancy, fear of STDs, and not having the appropriate partner. On the other hand 3 out of 4 girls have sex because their boyfriends want them to.

This article states a lot of the risks and the declination of teen pregnancy. Teen pregnancy had declined steadily since 1991 but the rates are still high. The important facts to the teen mothers are that they're increasing risks to their health and their opportunity to build a future is diminishing. Studies show that most of the teenage births (67%) are of the girls ages 18-19. More than 750,000 become pregnant and 420,000 of those give birth. Three out of 10 girls become pregnant at least once before they reach the age of 20 then between 22-33% of teen mothers under the age of 18 have a 2nd baby within two years after the birth of their first baby. Teens are more likely to give birth prematurely, like before 37 complete weeks of pregnancy. In 2002 from 2004 the preterm birth rates averaged 14.3% for teenage girls under the age of 20, their babies get an increased risk of newborn health problems, longterm disabilities and even death. So if teens were to smoke, drink, or take drugs a baby will most likely be born with health problems like low birth weight. Another risk they lead to is pre-mature birth or stillbirth (when a baby dies in the womb).

This article explains the health risks to the baby, children born to teenage mothers, and the other concequences of teenage pregnancy. Because some teenage mothers do not gain adequate weight while pregnant their baby's organs do not fully develope which can lead to complications like bleeding in the brain, espiratory distress syndrome, and intestinal problems. All teenagers do not eat healthy and pregnant women are recommended to take daily multivitamins to maintain adequate nutrition during pregnancy. Children born to teenage mothers are less likely to receive proper nutrition, health care, and cognitive and social stimulation. As a result, they may have an underdeveloped intellect and attain lower academic achievement. Teenage pregnancies are associated with an increased rate of delinquent behaviors in the fathers, including alcohol and substance abuse, lower educational level, and reduced earning potential.
